Fun Food Fact: Ketchup

Tonight I hosted a girls-night-in at my apartment with three friends: 1 bride + 3 bridesmaids (including me). It was meant as a make-up session for the fact that we hadn’t had time to do a bachelorette party for the bride before her big day.

After finishing our order-in pizza (parma ham, mushroom, mozzarella with added artichoke and spinach), our conversations went to many different topics, including etymology (the study of words).

As a bit of an enthusiast myself, I was so delighted to learn tonight that the English word “ketchup” is actually derived from Cantonese! Here’s some additional info, courtesy of Wikipedia…

Who knew… 🙂
